A fragile gut system means minor stressors like one drink or one slice of bread can derail you for days. As Kieran puts it, "I slightly deviated from my regimine for one evening and ruined three days of my life", this isn't a testament to how bad alcohol is (although it's not great).
Is it really the food or the system?
Let's look at this from the gut side, many clients come to me saying they ate a slice of bread and it ruined their life for three days,
Does that mean bread will ruin everyones lives? or even that it's inherently unhealthy if made with good quality ingredients?
No, it just means their system can't handle that right now.
And that's the important bit, you can build a system that's stronger,
You deviating from the plan and having some birthday cake no longer makes you feel like death.
A cup of coffee no longer causes intense diarrhoea.
What actually needs to be fixed to build resilience?
This can all be achieved when you:
- Work on the gut lining
- Work on the mucus lining
- Maintain healthy stomach acid and bile flow
- Rebalance your microbiome
- Make sure anti-oxidant status is on point
- Work on liver health
- Max out your micronutrients.
Why does this matter beyond one bad night?
There's so many factors that are at play, and if you want help finding some of those for yourself, that's exactly the kind of work covered in the bile flow pathway and in understanding your stomach acid status.
